We have developed the 3D Stealth key technology to enhance the protection of the traditional bitting data that is visible and readily accessible for every key. The visible properties of most keys might be copied and replicated in a non-destructive way, what means that most of the locks in the world are in some way vulnerable. Virtually all such keys can be secretly replicated by using a camera and 3D-printing technology, some relatively easily, even the highest-security keys. UrbanAlps, in our quest to continually improve upon our patented Stealth Key design, we have invited researchers and engineering labs to analyze its design, reverse engineer it, and make it even more secure. One of those "ethical hackers" was a team of senior mechanical engineering students, working with Marc Tobias and Tobias Bluzmanis at the University of Pittsburgh Security Engineering Lab. They spent a year trying to break the system in order to develop a simple method to decipher and reproduce one of our keys. They could not, but we learned valuable information which has led to our filing of added patents to even further protect against the ability to copy, replicate, or simulate our keys.

The reality is that Marc Weber's team, and others, were finally able to replicate the Stealth key by higher efforts, programming software and advanced 3D printing technology, but it was neither so simple, nor a surprise to our engineers. In our experience and testing, this is not such a simple process in the real world, as our research teams have proved their successful hack in a laboratory environment only after several months and using rather complex technologies.

It assures the security of the Stealth Key system, that leads the industry in the copy protection of mechanical keys. The Stealth Keys are 3D printed, but in a super-alloy which sets them apart from any other lock manufacturer. The bitting is hidden from view, which means traditional methods of attack will not work. Security in locks is based upon delay; the time it takes to actually open a lock with a simulated or duplicated key, or by picking or other means. The reality is that all locks are vulnerable, given enough time, tools, and expertise.
